Since 2017, Ulrich had served as the Head of the Section for Protein Science and Biotherapeutics at DTU Bioengineering. His leadership was characterized by excellence, vision, and a remarkable capacity to inspire those around him. Ulrich’s modesty and dedication set a remarkable example for all of us, and his unwavering commitment to the department’s development left an indelible mark.
Throughout his tenure, Ulrich’s leadership extended beyond his professional responsibilities. He consistently placed the needs and well-being of his colleagues ahead of his own, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where excellence thrived. His ability to recognize exceptional talent, regardless of career stage, was reflected in his successful recruitment of highly skilled scientists as PhD students, Postdocs, and group leaders. Ulrich’s groundbreaking research in proteomics and his dedication to understanding protease networks’ roles in complex diseases were nothing short of extraordinary. His work, which shed light on critical aspects of tissue inflammation, wound healing, and cancer, was a testament to his relentless pursuit of knowledge. His research achievements were widely recognized and respected by his peers, reflected in his numerous publications in top-tier journals, membership on multiple scientific society boards, and an insatiable drive for biological discovery.
