Ruth Trudo Obituary, Death Cause – Mrs. Trudo was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin to parents named Walter and Mayme Ross. When she was ten years old, Mrs. Trudo and her family relocated to the Rio Grande Valley. Ruth’s childhood coincided with the Great Depression, which meant that life was challenging, there were few opportunities for indulgence, and she had to learn how to make the most out of as little as possible. She recalled completing her schoolwork by the light of a kerosene lantern because not all of the family’s dwellings were equipped with electricity or indoor plumbing! She tied the knot with Frank Trudo on December 26, 1940 in Edinburg, three years after she graduated from Edinburg High School at the age of 16 and received her diploma.
They traveled through most of the 20th century and even further into the next century together. When she passed away on March 21, 1992, he had already passed away. As a result of the repeated relocations required by Frank’s Air Force employment, the couple’s seven children were born and educated in the states of Texas, Wyoming, Mississippi, Illinois, Alaska, and Virginia, respectively. The extroverted and affable nature of Ruth’s father frequently put her inventiveness and imagination to the test. Her memories of the day when Frank brought a co-worker home for dinner absolutely unannounced is one of the things she often brings up in conversation.
At the time, she only had a half pound of hamburger, a small amount of milk, and some bread to feed the entire family. She had no other choice but to resort to the SOS, a dish that is a mainstay on the military ration (kids, ask your grandparents about this). Ruth and Frank survived the Blizzard of ’49 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, in a tiny trailer with three little children, some canned soup, grit, and not much else. Ruth’s life as a military wife was anything but glamorous. When she would tell that story to others, she would frequently exclaim, “You have no clue. Ruth, who has been a devout Catholic her entire life and has been a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart parish ever since 1966, made it a point to ensure that her children always attended church and Catholic school appropriately attired and on time.
