In Garwood, NJ, a little hamlet of 5000, Anthony and Angelina Guerriero had five children, including John. John moved next door to his birth home as a toddler. He spent much of his life in that home, wintering in Florida and moving to St. Augustine a few years ago. John joined the US Navy at 17 and fought honorably during WWII. After the Navy, John got a Microbiology degree from Maryland and an MBA from Seton Hall. John spent a long and successful career in research and production with Schering Corp., now Merck and Co.
A founding member of the Garwood Athletic Club, he enjoyed golfing and NASCAR. John and his best pals attended Daytona 500 races often. Everyone John met became friends. Many considered him a ‘friend you would, without hesitation, consider family’ due to his kindness and calmness. He lived in Garwood for many years and had relationships with three generations of residents who loved him. John attended three-generation family picnics and holidays. Another interesting depiction is how he would dance with females whose escorts didn’t want to get up when he was a young man. These and other recollections offer joy.
John liked his large family. Many of his acquaintances called him Uncle John with affection. He has many friends. He loved Lucy Muraca, whom he met as a young man and reunited again after many years. Parents Anthony and Angelina, brothers Daniel (Lisa), Albert, and sister Frances Cusmano (Carmine) predeceased John.
