
Jerry Payne Obituary, Death Cause – r. Jerry “Poobie” Glenn Payne, age 65, from Trion, went away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 31, 2023 as the consequence of an automobile accident.
Mr. Payne was born in Whitwell, Tennessee on November 7, 1957. His parents, J.M. Payne and JoAnn Cash, passed away before his birth. After 46 years of service, the company that he worked for, Mt. Vernon Mills, allowed him to retire. Both the Quarter Century Club and the Pennville Church of Christ counted him as a member at one point. His first wife, Annelle Payne, as well as his brothers Eddie Payne and Ronnie Dykes, passed away before him. His parents were also among those who came before him in death.
Those who are left to honor his memory are his wife, Paulette Lowrance; daughters Brianna Payne, Heather Thompson, Brittany Payne, Amber Tapp, and Chastity Fowler; step-son Michael Hammond; siblings Kevin cash and Kim Manning; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and step-son Michael Hammond. He was predeceased by his son, Michael Lowrance. A memorial service honoring the life of Mr. Payne will be held at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., with the Reverend Lamar Russell and the Reverend Steve Collins officiating the ceremony.
After the funeral, the interment will take place at Garrett Cemetery, and the pallbearers will be Zach McGuire, Levi McGuire, David Tapp, Chris Baggett, Michael Hammond, and Matthew Tapp. Frank Baggett and Jack Baggett, along with the employees of the Preparation Department of Mt. Vernon Mills, will serve as honorary bearers of the casket. On Friday, September 8, the family will receive friends beginning at noon and continuing until the time of the service. Donations in memory of the deceased might be offered to the family in place of flowers to help with the unforeseen costs associated with the funeral.
